Film: Bachna Ae Haseeno
Music Composer: Vishal-Shekhar
Lyricist: Anvita Dutt Guptan
Singers: Shilpa Rao, KK, Shekhar Ravjiani, Hard Kaur, Sunidhi Chauhan, Raja Hassan, Shreya Ghoshal, Lucky Ali, Himani Kapoor, Sukhwinder Singh, Sumit Kumar, Shankar Mahadevan;

For Bachna Ae Haseeno, composer duo Vishal-Shekhar offers songs that are engaging from the word go. The album has everything - peppiness, calming songs, Punjabi music and jazz. So wait no longer and put on the play button.
An unlikely combination of Lucky Ali and Shreya Ghoshal render 'Ahista ahista'. What stands out in this contemporary track is the orchestra. And the singers' voices complement the orchestra amazingly well. Lyrics by Anvita Dutt Guptan are not bad, but it's the music that has a unique touch.
The title track will surely take the cake. Vishal-Shekhar have put in an entirely new flavour into 'Bachna ae haseeno', sung originally by late Kishore Kumar in 1977 for Hum Kissi Se Kum Nahin.
The song is an ideal mix of the glorious music of yesteryears and contemporary rhythms - a fusion that will be remembered for long. The composers have given the piece a completely enjoyable feel.
'Jog mahi' is one of those typical folk pieces merged with Bollywood tunes. Shekhar Ravjiani renders the song along with Sukhwinder Singh and Himani Kapoor. The number isn't that great but would make for a good dance track.
A fantastic track comes in the form of 'Khuda jaane'. Everybody seems to have done well in this slow and melodious track. Lyricist Anvita has written some original words while both the singers, Shilpa Rao and KK, have sung it brilliantly.
If nothing else, the lyrics of 'Lucky boy' will surely surprise listeners. An average piece, the number has a club feel to it. But the vocals by Sunidhi Chauhan, Raja Hassan and Hard Kaur are nothing exceptional. No harm in skipping this number.
Shankar Mahadevan renders the oddly titled 'Small town girl'. The music has a Punjabi base with lots of drumbeats thrown in.
Unlike other albums, Bachna Ae Haseeno has a couple of enjoyable pieces. The title track itself could make the album a big hit.

The hottest 'Pagli' of the tinsel town Mallika Sherawat is not just the Mallika for namesake, but she actually seems to have lived upto her name.
Recently a special survey was conducted with the B-town males by a daily 'Which woman celeb they fantasize most about'. And to our surprise Mallika won maximum votes leaving behind the likes of world's most beautiful woman Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Asia's most sexiest woman Bipasha Basu, currently most sought after woman Deepika Padukone, Ex-Miss Universe Lara Dutta and Sushmita Sen etc...28% of the 200 men polled revealed that they fantasize most about Mallika Sherawat followed by Lara Dutta and Bipasha Basu.
Ash who has countless male-fan following and any male can fall for her beauty was shockingly considered as the least sexy. She was given least number of votes. Not just the aam-junta but even the celeb males consider her as the most attractive and sexy lady. According to them she can appeal to people across age barrier.
But Mallika is quite modest about this poll. According to her it's an unfair advantage to her.
Well Mallika whatever you say but the true fact remains that you are truly a 'Mallika' of this age who can rule the roost.

'Race' song in plagiarism row

Taiwanese singer Wang Lee-hom has accused an Indian filmmaker of plagiarising his music and is seeking $320,000 in damages, said his agent.
Lee-hom, 33, a US-born singer popular in Southeast Asia, is seeking damages from Tips Films, distributor of the Hindi film 'Race', which was released in March, Sony BMG Music Entertainment Ltd said in a statement.

"The lead song in 'Race' - "Zara Zara touch me" resembles Wang's song "Deep in the bamboo grove" (Chu Lin Shen Chu). Its rhythm and tempo are similar to that of "Deep in the bamboo grove". The similarity is nearly 100 percent," added the statement.

Sony BMG said it reserves the right to take legal action against the distributor of 'Race' for plagiarism.

In the film, "Zara Zara touch me" was picturised on Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif.

'Race', also starring Akshaye Khanna, Anil Kapoor, Sameera Reddy and Bipasha Basu, has been showcased in India, the US, Britain, Australia and Malaysia and its original soundtrack has also been released in these countries.

"Deep in the bamboo grove" is part of Wang's album 'The Sun and Moon in My Heart', a collection of 12 Chinese-language songs released in December 2004.

The song mixes a Tibetan woman's singing with hip hop and Chinese drums and flute.

Children's films neglected, say experts

Your Ad Here

Movies download Click Here!

No money, no focus, no good directors. Despite honourable exceptions like 'Makdee' or 'Taare Zameen Par', children's films are struggling in India, feel experts.

Sai Paranjape, filmmaker and former chairperson of Children's Film Society of India (CFSI), said that lack of budgetary support is one of the major factors hampering the growth of children's films.

"Most filmmakers are not willing to shell out hefty budgets. So even if they are opting to make animation films, the films lack quality," Paranjape, who made slap stick comedy 'Chashme Buddoor', said.

Nafisa Ali, current CFSI chairperson, said: "If people shell out Rs.20 crore to make mainstream movies, to strike a balance, they should at least allocate Rs.2 crore for children's films."

Commenting on the lack of quality in most children's films, Paranjape said: "Children's films are very demanding - they need trick scenes, fun, animation, music, popular actors and all that."

Acclaimed filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker said: "The Indian film industry has never focussed at making quality cinema for children. Children's cinema is a totally neglected sector in India. I won't say it never existed. It existed only when Vishal Bharadwaj and Santosh Sivan made films. More recently, 'Taare Zameen Par' is a wonderful example of a children's film."

'Masoom', 'Makdee', 'The Blue Umbrella', 'Halo' and 'Taare Zameen Par' are the only children's films worth mentioning, the two filmmakers say.

Amole Gupte, the writer of widely applauded 'Taare Zameen Par', pointed out that Indian filmmakers also lack clarity when it comes to categorising children's films.

"The Indian film industry is very confused about the concept of children's films and whatever we have is not quality stuff," he felt.

Ravi Chopra's 'Bhootnath' is an example of the confusion. The first half of the film is light, but post-interval it becomes too preachy and heavy for children.

"Parents are also trying to discourage children from watching good films. International cinema provides some wonderful films like 'Finding Nemo', 'Ratatouille', 'Kung Fu Panda' and many others," said Gupte.

Indian animation films, however, are doing well. 'My Friend Ganesha', 'Bal Ganesh', 'Hanuman', 'Hanuman Returns' and others became very popular amongst children. Gupte says: "The Indian animation industry is expanding but it still has a long way to go."

Although others evoke the gloomy side, Nafisa Ali is hopeful about a bright future for this section of the Indian film industry.

"I hope we also get the involvement of better directors. As the chairperson of this body, I feel Jawaharlal Nehru's vision regarding children was so important and relevant. Today, we need family-based cinema," she said.

Paranjape feels CFSI can help in creating awareness about children's movies.

Indian films drawing audiences in Pakistan

Your Ad Here

Movies download Click Here!

After a number of years, Pakistanis are flocking to watch movies on the big screen, thanks to the latest Bollywood blockbusters now being screened in a newly opened multiplex.
Homemaker Kosar Jabeen said Indian films were drawing movie lovers, who would otherwise have watched movies at home on pirated CDs available for just Rs.100 (over $1), to cinema halls.

"I think this (hall) is marvellous and offers a (large) variety," said Kosar about the five-screen multiplex in adjacent Rawalpindi's that features Pakistani, Indian and English movies.

There has been a decline in the sales of pirated CDs, especially of the latest Bollywood films, according to Babar Rasheed, who owns a CD shop here.

"I think the major reason is that people can watch Indian movies on the big screen and can see the original print instead of the poor quality pirated CDs," Rasheed said.

Fahim Marwat, a keen film viewer, admitted that he had watched each and every film that has been released in the newly opened Cinepax multiplex.

"It provides the perfect atmosphere for film viewers. Indian movies have added real colour to the artistic building," he said.

Kamran Rehmat, a senior journalist working with Dawn News, felt that apart from entertainment, the exchange of movies would also promote India-Pakistan relations.

"I believe the exchange of movies can prove instrumental in sustainable peace between the two countries," Rehmat added.

"This is a welcome step and both countries should liberalise their policies of exchanging movies, dramas and songs... its always good to see Pakistani singers like Atif Aslam in 'Kismat Konnection' ... singing for Indian movies," Rehmat said.

He said that death of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan saddened him not only because he was a great singer but because he was the one who started singing for Indian movies and was a kind of Pakistani ambassador to the Indian people.

"He was the icon of peace and love among the people of the two countries," Rehmat said.

Designed by award-winning Mesbur & Smith Architects, the Cinepax complex is the first multi-screen cinema in the twin-cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

"I think it's a beautiful place and movies here are very attractive. I think now the screening of Indian movies should continue," said Shifa Fahad, who watched four movies at one go with her husband.

These included Aziz Mirza's 'Kismat Konnection', 'Wanted', 'Kung Fu Panda' and 'Ramchand Pakistani', which stars Indian actress Nandita Das.

"Though it's a masala movie, I think 'Kismat Konnection' is number one among the five movies being screened here," Shifa said.

But she wasn't too happy with 'baby boy' Shahid Kapur being paired opposite Vidya Balan, who she felt could even be cast as 'his mother'.

Like a perfect film analyst, Shifa pointed out some flaws in the movie.

"None of the playback singers' voices match that of Shahid Kapur ... and I wish I could have such a lavish lifestyle and drive a racing car like the hero does in the movie without any job and money," she remarked.

She said that Indian and Pakistani film producers could take some lessons from English movies. But she quickly admitted that Indians films, nevertheless, provide great entertainment.

Aishwarya has been endorsing the brand since 2004.

"I am delighted to be associated with a brand like Nakshatra that has garnered immense popularity not only in India but worldwide. I hope this association is amiable and mutually profitable," Katrina said in a statement here on Tuesday.

Gitanjali Group chairman Mehul Choksi said: "Katrina is the perfect representation of the young, trendy and fashionable woman that Nakshatra targets. She lends a refreshing look to the brand. We are excited about having her on board as the new face for Nakshatra."

This is the second time this year that Katrina has overtaken Aishwarya in terms of popularity and endorsements. Earlier, Katrina replaced her as the Bollywood star with the maximum number of downloads and searches on the Internet.

The Britain-born actress, who was initially written off by critics for her strong stiff upper lip accent, has proved her mettle in Bollywood by delivering five back-to-back hits with "Namastey London", 'Apne', 'Partner', 'Welcome' and 'Race'.

Her other releases slated for this year are romantic comedy "Singh is Kingg" with Akshay Kumar and musical extravaganza 'Yuvraj' with real life beau Salman Khan.

She will also be seen in Rajkumar Santoshi's 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani' where she teams up with Ranbir Kapoor.
